Wisdom Teeth Extraction

Prevent pain and dental complications

The third molars in the back of your mouth that normally appear between the ages of 17-20 are known as your wisdom teeth. While some people can have these teeth without issue, wisdom teeth can cause issues if they are not removed and lead to discomfort, gum disease, bone loss, cavities to the teeth around to them, pathologies, infection, crowding of the rest of the teeth, and several other dental complications. Luckily, Dr. Amin Samadian and his San Francisco team can perform wisdom teeth removal that can prevent the oral health discomfort and potential concerns that come from not removing them.

What is wisdom teeth extraction?

Wisdom tooth extraction is a dental surgery procedure where your wisdom teeth are removed. It’s a simple, clear-cut oral surgery with relatively quick recovery time.

Reasons for wisdom teeth extraction

Dr. Amin Samadian and his San Francisco team will likely suggest that your wisdom teeth be removed if your wisdom teeth are misaligned and your mouth is too small for them to keep them in a proper bite formation and proper hygiene. Most people will need their wisdom teeth removed at some point in their life. If they have grown in sideways, are starting to emerge from your gum, or are stuck beneath the gum and the bone, this extraction can stop oral health problems that can quickly become painful and expensive before they appear.

What does wisdom teeth extraction involve?

The placement of your wisdom teeth and the difficulty of extracting them will determine what kind of anesthesia Dr. Amin Samadian and his team will use. First, a 3D cone beam CT scan is performed that will reveal the alignment of the wisdom tooth through a 3D image. This scan will also show where the lower jaw nerve (called the inferior alveolar nerve) travels. After receiving this scan, Dr. Samadian’s San Francisco team will determine the best strategy for removing the wisdom tooth. Once the anesthesia has begun working, he’ll make a small cut into your gum tissue to expose the problem tooth and the underlying bone. At this point, Dr. Amin Samadian and his San Francisco team will remove any bone that’s covering the tooth and separate the connective tissue.

Next, he’ll extract the tooth with an ultrasonic device in the most minimally-invasive manner possible. The operation will end when Dr. Amin Samadian and his team clean the debris from the treatment area, uses stitches to close everything up and inserts some gauze bandage to stop any bleeding and ensure blood clots form to begin the healing process. They use LASER to sanitize the space to minimize the risk of any complications that could arise with wisdom teeth extraction.

Is wisdom teeth extraction painful?

While you will not feel any pain during the extraction procedure, the recovery period may be uncomfortable. You can expect some aching, swelling, and bleeding, but Dr. Amin Samadian and his San Francisco team will give you detailed instructions on how to manage it. Thankfully, this is only temporary and you’ll likely feel much better after a few days.

What results will I see?

After wisdom tooth removal, your wisdom teeth will no longer be in your mouth so you shouldn’t have to worry about them causing any future pain or oral health concerns.
