Achieve Dental Implant Success

We all have air-filled hollows in the bones of our skulls, known as the sinuses. Your maxillary sinuses can be found around your cheekbones, just between your eye sockets and teeth. When teeth in the upper back portion of the mouth are lost, the maxillary sinuses can enlarge, dropping down into the jawbone and filling in the area where absent teeth used to be.

In some cases, even when teeth are present, there still isn’t enough bone height between the gums and sinus floor for the proper placement of dental implants. This is where a sinus elevation or sinus lift comes in. Using this procedure, Dr. Samadian can lift your maxillary sinus and create more room for implants, enabling you to fully restore your smile. If you’re in San Francisco or the East Bay and you’re ready to learn more about this procedure, reach out and set up your consultation today!

Reasons for Sinus Elevation

There are multiple reasons why Dr. Amin Samadian and his team may recommend sinus elevation to a patient. If lack sufficient bone in your jaw, or have a jaw that is too small to accommodate an implant, a sinus lift may be a good treatment for you.

Dr. Samadian and his team may also recommend this procedure if you have a larger sinus area that results in limited room for a dental implant, or if you are facing bone loss or bone damage that stands in the way of a successful implant procedure.

During your consultation, Dr. Samadian and his team will closely evaluate your physical characteristics, and help you chart your course to a successful implant procedure.

What Is Sinus Elevation?

A type of bone grafting procedure, sinus elevation is designed to prepare a specific area of your mouth for a dental implant in your upper jaw. Dr. Samadian and his highly trained staff frequently perform this procedure to significantly increase the chances of a successful implant placement, so patients can correct whatever issues might be keeping them from enjoying their ideal smile.

What Does Sinus Elevation Involve?

During your sinus elevation procedure, Dr. Samadian and his highly trained staff will make a tiny incision into your gums. Next, they’ll fashion the exposed jawbone to form a moveable flap using ultrasonic devices, which will be gently driven upward into your sinus cavity using water pressure and vibrations.

This “lifting” procedure results in an empty space that can then be filled with bone graft material. In some instances, Dr. Samadian may even place your dental implant right away, or it may be prudent to wait six or more months for implant placement. Before your procedure, Dr. Samadian will discuss your timeline with you in detail, so you’ll know exactly what to expect.

Impressive Results, Complete Comfort

Depending on your exact circumstances, Dr. Samadian and his team may use local anesthesia, oral sedation, or nitrous oxide sedation (laughing gas) to ensure that you’re as comfortable as possible during your sinus lift. Each of these options can reduce the amount of pain and discomfort you feel during your treatment.

After your sinus lift, you’ll be ready for a successful dental implant surgery, which will enable you to once again enjoy a full and complete smile, and greet the world with a renewed sense of confidence. If you’re in San Francisco or the East Bay area, and you’re ready to learn more about what sinus elevation can do for you, reach out and set up your consultation today!
