Soft Tissue Grafting

Combat gum recession

Are you struggling with gum recession? If you are, soft tissue grafting could be a great treatment option for you. Gum recession is usually the consequence of aging, forceful brushing, periodontal disease, and bad tooth positioning. Left untreated, it can lead to tooth-root exposure which can cause additional health concerns down the road.

With soft tissue grafting, Dr. Amin Samadian and his team in San Francisco can mask your exposed tooth root or reinforce your existing gum tissue to prevent additional tissue loss.

What is soft tissue grafting?

Gum grafting traditionally is the surgical transfer of soft tissue from one section of your mouth to another. It is designed to improve areas of your smile that have maintained gum recession and can lessen sensitivity and discomfort. In modern techniques, artificial grafts are used instead of removing anything from the roof of your mouth, making the healing process faster and simpler.

Reasons for soft tissue grafting

There are a number of reasons Dr. Amin Samadian and his team in San Francisco may suggest soft tissue grafting. Since root exposure can lead to tooth loss, it is critical to remove any problems from your gums as soon as you can so they can be healthy again. Gum grafting can also help you resolve a “toothy” appearance in your mouth and stop tissue and bone loss.

What does soft tissue grafting involve?

Before the procedure, the area above and below your gum line will be cleaned deeply to clear your teeth and roots of tartar. During soft tissue grafting, in a conventional approach, Dr. Amin Samadian and his team will take gum tissue either from your palate or a donor source and make a little incision to cover the exposed root and in the modern approach (such as the Pinhole technique), synthetic grafts are used to cover the recession. Depending on your individual situation, they may perform this procedure for one or several of your teeth.

Is soft tissue grafting painful?

Since Dr. Amin Samadian and his team usually performs soft tissue grafting under local anesthesia, you can anticipate no pain or discomfort during your treatment

What results will I see?

After gum grafting, you will experience less tooth sensitivity and enhance the aesthetic look of your smile. In addition, you can halt additional tissue loss.
