An Advanced Alternative to Traditional Braces

Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment that straightens your teeth using a series of clear, plastic aligners, instead of the metal wires and rubber bands that come with traditional braces. As long as you wear your prescribed aligners for at least 22 hours each day, Invisalign will work to gradually move your teeth to a straighter position.

Your set of custom aligners will be designed for discretion and comfort in equal measure, so your dental wear won’t impact your daily routine. Invisalign can be taken out for eating, drinking, brushing, and flossing, and the average person won’t be able to tell that you’re undergoing the treatment thanks to the clear design.

Since Invisalign is an electronic-based treatment, you’ll know exactly what to expect and how long you’ll need to wear your orthodontic aligners. Conventional metal braces are less predictable, and can sometimes lead to unforeseen issues. Invisalign avoids these unpleasant surprises, so you can feel comfortable and secure.

Am I a candidate for Invisalign?

You may be a candidate for Invisalign in San Francisco with Dr. Samadian if you struggle with crooked teeth, an overbite, an underbite, or another orthodontic issue, but are not interested in traditional metal braces.

Invisalign can also be used to protect your gums and reduce the risk of gum disease. Since the creation of Invisalign in 1997, it has been the preferred treatment for teens and adults who require orthodontic teeth alignment.

What Does Invisalign Involve?

Using in-house 3D printing technology and advanced digital scanners, Dr. Samadian will select the best treatment and design your custom aligners. His commitment to state-of-the-art equipment means he can design your treatment around your ideal results and visualize your preferred outcome for you ahead of time.

Imagery and Scanning

Once Dr. Samadian and his team decide that you’re a good candidate for Invisalign in San Francisco, they will take images of your teeth and face, as well as x-rays and a digital scan of your mouth. These will all be utilized to design a set of custom aligners made specifically for your teeth.

Gradual Progress

After your custom aligners have been designed, you’ll wear each set for two weeks at a time, for at least 22 hours a day. Each set of aligners is designed to gradually straighten your teeth, moving them into position at a rate of about 2/10mm per aligner.

Ongoing Hygiene

As with traditional metal braces, you’ll need to ensure that you maintain exceptional oral hygiene while using Invisalign. It’s a good idea to wash and brush them every day, just like your own teeth, to prevent the buildup of any bacteria.

Maintaining Your Smile

Once you’ve achieved your ideal results, Dr. Samadian’s team will ask that you wear a retainer while you sleep to prevent your teeth from shifting back to their original positions, so you can preserve your impressive results.

Picking Your Retainer

While some patients prefer clear plastic retainers that are reminiscent of their Invisalign aligners, others may choose to receive a permanent retainer fixed on the inside of their lower front teeth.

The Invisalign Experience

When you begin using each new set of orthodontic aligners, you may feel a little soreness and discomfort as your mouth gets used to the new aligner. Fortunately, this discomfort is short-lived and will fade in a few days as your teeth and mouth adjust.

Invisalign FAQ

Is Invisalign painful?

Invisalign treatment is typically not painful; however, some patients may experience temporary discomfort or pressure when they switch to a new set of aligners, which usually subsides within a few days.

Can I eat and drink with Invisalign?

You can eat and drink with Invisalign, but it is recommended to remove the aligners before meals to prevent staining and damage. It's essential to maintain proper oral hygiene and clean your teeth before putting the aligners back in after eating.

Will Invisalign affect my speech?

Invisalign may temporarily affect speech for some individuals, particularly during the initial days of wearing aligners. However, most people adjust quickly, and any speech issues tend to resolve as they become accustomed to the aligners.

How often should I clean my Invisalign aligners?

You should clean your Invisalign aligners daily, ideally with a gentle brush and clear, antibacterial soap or specialized cleaning crystals provided by your orthodontist. Regular cleaning helps maintain their transparency and hygiene.

What are the potential side effects or risks associated with Invisalign?

Potential side effects of Invisalign may include temporary discomfort, minor speech changes, and a slight lisp initially. Risks are generally minimal, but misusing or failing to maintain proper oral hygiene can lead to issues like tooth decay or gum problems.
