Sedation Dentistry

Say goodbye to dental anxiety

Do you get anxious every time you visit the dentist? If so, you aren’t alone. Just the thought of the dentist makes many people extremely nervous. Sometimes, this causes them to skip important appointments and miss out on necessary dental work.

Fortunately, oral sedation and nitrous oxide can help you relieve your dental anxiety and ensure you still get the dental care that you need. Dr. Amin Samadian has found sedation dentistry to be an ideal solution to dental anxiety.

What is sedation dentistry?

The primary goal of sedation dentistry is to relieve any fear that may come from going to the dentist. It can help you receive the crucial dental care you need by subduing the part of your brain that controls worry and makes you feel uneasy in the first place. Essentially, it’s a technique that’s used to help you feel at ease when you’re seeing your dentist.

Reasons for sedation dentistry

You may be recommended for sedation dentistry for a variety of reasons. If you have extreme stress or anxiety about seeing the dentist, regardless of the visit being a simple cleaning or a more complex procedure, Dr. Amin Samadian may recommend oral sedation or nitrous oxide. Sedation dentistry may also be a good option for you if the devices used at the dentist or an upcoming procedure cause you feelings of nervousness.

What does sedation dentistry involve?

If Dr. Amin Samadian and his team find you to be a good candidate for sedation and you decide to move forward with it, you’ll receive medication for either oral sedation or nitrous oxide. If you receive oral sedation, he’ll usually prescribe two doses of medication known as Triazolam. You’ll take one before bed the evening before your treatment and another dose of Triazolam about an hour ahead of time. Since you won’t be able to drive on this medication, you’ll need someone to escort you to and from your appointment. He may also use other medications, depending on the specific needs of the patient.

If prescribed nitrous oxide, you will inhale it through a little mask that sits comfortably over your nose. Dr. Samadian will mix the nitrous gas with oxygen as it’s being delivered and ensure it’s safe for your body. You can expect to feel a floating sensation and maybe even some tingling in your hands and feet. Once you’ve confirmed with your team that you are comfy and calm, your procedure will start.

Is sedation painful?

Both oral sedation and nitrous oxide are absolutely painless. In fact, they will enable you to feel completely comfortable and content while you’re receiving dental care and you will forget a majority of the procedure, which is another great benefit of sedation.

What results will I see?

With sedation dentistry, you can get the oral health treatments you require to achieve and maintain a healthy mouth, teeth, and gums. Without it, you may evade necessary dental care and face serious mouth health difficulties in the future.
